Grace For Healing
God wants you well
by Jesus stripes

The most quoted healing Scripture surely is ‘by Jesus Stripes’ we are healed.

I’m sure you’ve said ‘by Jesus stripes’ hundreds of times in prayer. But do we really understand it deep in our hearts or is it just a phrase we’ve learned to quote?

Do you speak this from the heart with passion, with emotion and with revelation?

I know for me, the more I meditate on this verse, the deeper my faith for healing is and the greater my revelation of God’s love for me: two conditions that open the door for divine healing.

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Is 53:5

Healing is part of the atonement. Jesus died for both the forgiveness of sins and the healing of disease. See IS IT ALWAYS GOD’S WILL TO HEAL?

SOZO

All the way through the Bible we read of both of these together. Psalm 103:3 says that God ‘forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases’

You may have come across the awesome Greek word ‘Sozo’. This means both ‘to save’ and ‘to heal’.

It is Jesus desire to heal, as much as to save. ‘By Jesus stripes’ refers to the wounding and torture of Jesus on the day of His crucifixion.

This is important because it’s easy to think that healing is some kind of after thought or an added extra.

When you understand the word ‘sozo’ to mean both salvation and healing simultaneously, you will no longer see yourself as a believer who is sick, but a healed believer living with symptoms.

PHYSICAL OR SPIRITUAL HEALING?

It is disappointing to read posts on the internet condemning this teaching, claiming that ‘by His stripes’ is referring to spiritual healing, the forgiveness of sins.

If you’re wondering the same, I encourage you to look at the original Hebrew.

Surely He has borne our griefs [Hebrew, choliy] And carried our sorrows [Hebrew, mak’ob];

Is 53:4

But when we look at the original Hebrew, the word griefs, [choliy] means ‘sickness’ and sorrows [mak’ob] is translated ‘pains’.

This shows that Jesus stripes is referring to our physical (and emotional) healing.

Failure to understand this will cause doubt in your heart and you won’t be able to confidently believe God for your breakthrough.

THE SCOURGING POST

The sentence given to someone found guilty was either to suffer at the scourging post or death by crucifixion. However, as we know, our beautiful Lord endued both.

Jesus had to go to the scourging post as prophesied in Isaiah. This is where the Roman soldiers whipped him at least 39 times.

These are the ‘stripes’ referred to when we read ‘by Jesus stripes we are healed’. Our healing therefore begins here, with Jesus broken body.

I’m sad to say though, that scourging is way more torturous than the whipping you may see in movies.

The whips were leather with pieces of glass and sharp stones on the ends, designed to completely rip off the skin inflicting maximum torture.

In reality Jesus didn’t look human by the time the soldiers had finished with him. “The plowers plowed on my back; they made their furrows long”. Ps 129:3)

In fact, even all his bones were visible (Ps 22:17).

Joseph Prince teaches that the correct Greek word for (By Jesus) stripes’ is ‘molops’ which is singular. ‘By his stripe we are healed’. The torture was so extreme, Jesus body had no skin left.

I believe He saw me personally when he endured his suffering. He saw you too.

Scripture tells us He went through this for us and as us. In other words, it wasn’t for himself, and without this sacrifice you and I have no foundation for divine healing.

He received the scourging that we deserved.

Maybe take a moment to let this sink in.

HOLY COMMUNION

When you partake of the Holy Communion, do you distinguish between the bread and wine or do you lump them both together for the forgiveness of sins?

For many years, I had no idea that the 2 elements are for 2 different parts of the atonement. The wine is for Jesus shed blood. The bread is for his broken body.

The difference this revelation has made each time I partake. We must discern the 2 or the Bible says we partake unworthily.

For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

1 Cor 11:29

We must discern the Lord’s body, the bread, for the healing of disease. This is different from the wine which is the shed blood, for the forgiveness of sins.

Partaking of Christ’s broken body becomes a powerful expectation of healing and freedom when received with revelation of The Truth.

DIVINE HEALING

When The Bible refers to ‘By Jesus stripes’ it surely is referring to healing supernaturally as opposed to the input of the medical profession.

I don’t think Jesus went to the scourging post and endured such torture for us to be healed with the help of doctors.

Healing in the Atonement is a supernatural provision and needs no help from man.

Of course God does use the medical profession to make us well.

He is for doctors and often puts the correct doctor in place to perform the surgery, the procedure, the diagnosis etc.

He is faithful and answers prayer. I do not doubt that God is behind such results. But this is not the type of healing Jesus died for.

But doctors are a luxury. Believing God for a healing when you know God can use doctors is much easier than believing for a miracle outside any kind of medical intervention.

It is devastating when doctors cannot help you. It means you’re either going to suffer forever, or you’re going to die.

I know many people who claim God has miraculously healed them only to later discover they had an operation or chemo.

There are plenty of health conditions and disabilities out there which doctors are unable to cure or even help. Some countries don’t even have doctors. See THE 4 DIFFERENT WAYS GOD HEALS TODAY

Do you see yourself as a healed believer, just living with symptoms? It really is a mindset shift which comes from revelation.

We walk out our healing, operating from victory. When you understand ‘by Jesus stripes we are (already) healed’, it is easier to walk in divine health despite our bodies.

Can you imagine the difference, if all believers had the revelation that Jesus went to an awful lot of trouble to see us healed. The cross is far more than the forgiveness of sins.

That it is really by his STRIPE that healing is possible.

Healing for our physical illnesses really is in the Atonement, our role is to believe it and speak it and rest in the finished work of Jesus.

I hope this is beneficial to you today.
