I believe that it’s powerful to see yourself healed, even though you’re in the midst of illness.
Today we look why you need to see yourself in this way and not as someone who is sick. By the end of this post, you’ll gain 5 tips that’ll help you to see yourself healed.
As a born-again believer, we are already healed. (from God’s perspective).
This is our POSITION, and our walk comes from this place.
See IS IT ALWAYS GOD’S WILL TO HEAL.
But whilst it’s good to speak this truth in accordance with the Word and our cognitive understanding, in those moments of distress, when the pain is overwhelming, we tend to say exactly the opposite.
Our circumstances are powerful
HAVE YOU GOT INTERNAL CONFLICT?
Caroline Leaf talks of lack of integrity. If you say something with your mouth that you don’t really believe, this creates an internal conflict.
Saying you’re healed when deep down you don’t really believe it, is counterproductive. (But if you do see yourself healed first, speaking it out is powerful and effective.)
When there is inner conflict, there is pressure or stress on the body’s system, increasing and reinforcing symptoms.
But it is inaccurate and also ineffective in my opinion, not to see yourself and speak as though you’re healed.
Because you’re believing something that isn’t in line with God’s Word.
DO YOU SEE YOURSELF HEALED?
So how can we align with God’s Word and authentically say ‘let the weak say I am strong’? Joel 3:10 or (when you don’t really believe it).
As we journey through chronic illness, seeing ourselves the way God sees us irrespective of what our body is saying is the key.
No one living in Zion will say, “I am ill”
Is 33:24
IN OTHER WORDS, SEEING YOURSELF HEALED HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NATURAL REALM.
Seeing yourself healed is your position.
Faith for healing isn’t believing God will heal some time in the future. Faith for healing is believing you already are even though despite your body.
CAN YOU SEE WHAT GOD SEES?
When God looks at you he doesn’t see you sick, but healthy healed and whole. He sees you through the lens of the finished work, the cross.
Christ carried your sickness, but He didn’t arise from the grave with it. He has placed you in Christ, when Christ arose, you arose with Him.
It’s not that you are sick and you need healing, the Truth is that you are healed but living with symptoms.
CREATE A HEALTHY INTERNAL IMAGE
How do you see yourself when you pray for healing? How do you see others when you pray for them? Do you see others sick or healed?
One of my pet hates is people that take to social media putting photos of themselves in hospital, with tubes, bandages etc on. This reinforces the image of sickness, now it’s all people see when they pray for them.
We can’t expect victory if the image on the inside is sickness.
SEE YOURSELF HEALED IN CHRIST
I’ve put together 5 pointers or tips to help you see yourself the way God does
1. MEDITATE ON SCRIPTURE
We do this by meditating on His Word and listening to His voice. We get to know Him and who He is, then we find out who we are.
You will begin to see yourself the way God sees you, healthy and whole. He sees you in Christ.
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
1 John 4:17
The more you do this, the more that image of healing will appear on the inside. Is Jesus living with sickness and disease?
2. PRACTISE PENDULATION TO PREPARE YOUR BRAIN
Peter Levine, founder of Somatic Experiencing, talks of Pendulation. This is where you bring attention to the bothersome part of your body, then you swing your attention to another, less painful part of your body. You then go back and forth.
In doing this, you’re training your brain to focus on the comfortable parts of our body and thus lessening your attention on the painful or ‘diseased’ parts. This is part of neuroplastic healing.
This really helps to see ourselves healed.
3. RECEIVE GOD’S GRACE SO YOU’RE IN HIS STRENGTH
Learn to receive God’s grace in order to manage your daily living. Even though your body is in pain, you can be confident that God has given you what you need.
Just as the Israelites relied on daily mana, we too can rely on the daily grace God gives us.
When our eyes focus on the demands of the day and how we’re not well enough to do them, this increases stress levels as does the sickness mentality.
But when we choose to believe that God graces us to do what is necessary, even if it’s just one tiny step, we focus on living, and not on pain.
4. FIND A SUPPORT NETWORK
Surround yourself with people who see you in Christ first and foremost.
If you surround yourself with people who want to rescue you or feel sorry for you, then as comforting as this might be, but it will harm your healing journey in the long run.
Compassion is necessary but not sufficient. When Jesus healed Jairus’ daughter, he needed to remove those creating the wrong environment first.
How do those in your life see you? Do they see you as someone who is sick or someone who has symptoms? You are not your illness.
5. CHANGE YOUR WORDS SO THEY DON’T HINDER YOU
If you want to see yourself healed, limit the number of times you talk about it with others. Otherwise, people will see you through the lens of sickness at your invitation.
Words have the power to reinforce the very thing you want free from.

See LIFE AND DEATH ARE IN THE POWER OF THE TONGUE
you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth. Pro 6:2
Even non Christian dr’s have started to tell their patients this. Recovery often has to do with creating new pathways in the brain which helps you see yourself well.
Discussing your symptoms, illness etc, will only reinforce the illness and keep it alive.
What do you think about not discussing your illness with anyone? Does it still frustrate you or do you think you can begin to see yourself healed, the way God sees you?
Imagine if everyone who needs healing saw themselves well in their hearts; the difference it would make to their outlook, their prayers and their enjoyment.
Illness would no longer dominate them and they’d really embrace their true identity as a child of God.
Which of the above tips can you apply to your life today?
I hope this supports you in your journey. Sending you lots of love.
