If you could ask God for just one thing, what would it be? I’m sure most of you reading this, if you’re unwell, would say healing. God appeared to Soloman in a dream and asked him this very question. I wonder what he would answer if he only had 6 months to live or if he’d been ill for many years?

Today we’re going to look at how wisdom is the key to our healing.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom.”

Pro 4:7

Praying for healing is not our principle thing, it’s wisdom! When we’re ill, we need God’s wisdom more than anything else! Even if Soloman had been very unwell, asking for wisdom was still the higher choice. In the message translation it says this:

Joseph knew exactly what to do about the famine in Egypt when no-one else did. Without this wisdom the whole nation would have starved. Wisdom is a person. Wisdom is Jesus and he is the solution to every problem. The Holy Spirit is on the inside of you, and he knows all things. Doctors and medical professionals are wonderful and God uses them all the time. Despite their education and their knowledge, they may not have wisdom from God. They are limited in their understanding, they only know the medicine. We have access to the one who knows it all.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Is 55:9

You may be already declaring healing scriptures over your life, but the spirit of wisdom may lead you to pray more specifically. Wisdom directs you to the next step in your journey and helps you to make right choices.

4 Reasons Why Wisdom Is The Key To Our Healing:

1. Wisdom will also tell you which friends to support you whilst you go through this journey, which friends to be completely free and honest with. Are your friends carrying you to Jesus? Are they speaking life over you? The spirit of wisdom may tell you to end a friendship which has been causing unnecessary stress which has resulted to symptoms in your body.

He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.

Pro 13:20

The paralysed man lowered through the roof had the wisdom to know which friends would carry him to Jesus. (Mark 2:1-5) What would have happened if he trusted the wrong friends? (Check out this teaching!)

2. God doesn’t just want you well, he wants you whole. The spirit of wisdom told Jesus to touch the leper. This was a man who had not been touched in many years. Isn’t this beautiful? Which areas of your life do you need God to touch? Let wisdom show you. Perhaps you need to experience more love in your life, better quality relationships or you’re caught up with negative thoughts.

Wisdom will tell you (like it did me), that you need more laughter in your life. There’s a saying that laughter is the best medicine. There is truth in this. It strengthens the immune system and reduces the effects of stress as endorphins and happy hormones are released into the body increasing wellness and health.

3. Wisdom tells you what may be hindering your healing and therefore what to do. Maybe you’re beating yourself up for past mistakes. Guilt and shame release a cortisol into your bloodstream amplifying symptoms. Wisdom shows you how to forgive yourself and to meditate on the grace of God. It’s very difficult to receive a healing if you’re feeling bad about yourself. Maybe you’ve spent your life putting everyone else’s needs above your own. Did you know this creates a tension in the body and encourages us to repress feelings, both contribute to the onset of illness? Wisdom may direct you how to be more self honouring or how to stop being a people pleaser.

Your illness could be the result of unresolved trauma, the spirit of wisdom guides you to the freedom from that trauma. Often illness has a cause. Chronic pain disorders are often caused by low self esteem, a lack of self honour and striving. The spirit of wisdom will show you how to un-root any root cause. This is greater than any short term solution. This brings a long-term healing into your body. How awesome is that?!

4. On a simple level, wisdom may direct you to change parts of your lifestyle which have contributed to the onset of the illness. Maybe you need to change the types of foods you’ve been eating or how much exercise you need to incorporate into your life. If you’ve been operating from an unhelpful belief system, wisdom will show you which new thoughts to think instead. The wrong thoughts are toxic, releasing a cortisol into your body creating symptoms.

We have the source of wisdom within us, (Woohoo this is great news!) This means that whatever issue you’re struggling with, the Holy Spirit already knows the answer.

James 1:5 tells us how much God wants us to have wisdom. Soloman asked for a discerning heart, a heart that hears his voice, a heart that expects him to speak and a heart that obeys. Without wisdom, you’ll continue to pray for healing without moving forward. Wisdom is the key to our healing!

Takeaway:

Ask God for wisdom today? What’s he saying? What’s the next step in your journey and what changes do you need to make?
