Confused as to why your healing hasn’t happened yet? We can’t really explore God’s healing without first discussing the ways in which God heals. Failure to understand this will add to the mystery and confusion of the ‘waiting’ period. How many times do we request something of God, but then become disheartened when God hasn’t provided the way we suppose he will. Could it be that God wants you to receive your healing in a way that opposes and challenges your assumptions? Here are the 4 ways that God heals us:

He heals naturally.

Think about the last time you had a cold or the flu. Your inbuilt immune system went to work immediately and within a few days you were back to full health. God created our bodies to heal even if we have no faith at all! If you’ve cut your finger, eventually the bleeding stops and the wound begins to heal over. This is God’s design. It’s amazing to think that God gave Adam and Eve an immune system! He knew at the beginning of time we would live in a fallen world. (Can you imagine what would happen if our bodies weren’t designed to heal? We would have all bled to death by now! )

Pitfall!: Not every part of our body is able to heal.

He heals medically

I’m sure you’ve been treated by a Dr at some point in your life. If you become unwell and your body isn’t likely to heal independently, then you need medical intervention. Operations, antibiotics, medication, transplants…..God of course gave doctors their brains! He gives them wisdom and insight, He puts the right Dr in place at the right time. God will orchestrate this for you.

My personal opinion is that God uses Drs to make people well, rather than labelling this a healing in the Biblical sense. Where would we all be without Drs? I think most of us would probably be dead by now! Praise God for the medical profession!

Pitfall!: Drs can’t always treat certain illnesses: chronic diseases, terminal cancers or disabilities to name a few.

In my own life, I honestly believed I had faith for healing, but after numerous failed medical attempts at curing me, Drs finally admitted defeat. My heart sank. It became clear, I now had to believe God for a healing outside of Drs which is a far more challenging journey! You never really know how much faith for healing you have whilst Drs are treating you. Whist there is nothing wrong with Drs, our faith can be diluted unconsciously.

Discipleship Question:

Q. Have you ever been told by a dr that there is nothing more they can do for you? What impact did this have on your faith for healing?

He heals supernaturally.

This is the healing we all want. We see examples in the Bible where Jesus just touched someone and instantly they were healed. This is a supernatural miracle! How we all long for someone to lay hands on us also; the quick fix, the instant recovery. Maybe you’ve been to a healing conference or church service where someone has received this instant miracle? This is a wonderful example of the incredible power of the Holy Spirit.

“To one is given…..gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles…..All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” 1 Cor 12:7-11

Most people take the view that as Jesus was the Son of God, he could do anything he wanted. Actually, Jesus walked the earth as a man filled by the Holy Spirit which then enabled him to perform such miracles.

This same power is available to you and I today! Yippee! Such awesome news! This is why we lay hands on people. The Holy Spirit in us is transferred onto the one we’re praying for. It is not a gift for the elite, the church pastor or those with titles. You and I can eagerly desire these gifts and the Spirit distributes as He wills.

Pitfall!: Some people wait and wait and the healing just doesn’t happen!

Discipleship Question:

Q. Have you or anyone you know ever received an instant miracle? How has this spurred you on in eagerly desiring the spiritual gifts of healing?

He heals (by grace) through faith

Perhaps the most overlooked method of healing that God uses today, yet probably God’s greatest desire that we’re healed in this way. The woman with the issue of blood received her healing through faith.

But today, you and I are living in new covenant times; it’s not that God will heal, this isn’t faith. Instead, we believe that the healing has already taken place 2000 years ago so we walk in this truth before we see the results made manifest. (That’s what this website is all about!) Our hearts, words and actions are all in alignment with this truth.

It would be easy, if someone else laid hands on us! However, God doesn’t want us to rely on others when you have the Healer living on the inside. He wants us empowered by His Spirit, to be the head and not the tail. When God heals us by faith, he often takes us through a wilderness season where our character is developed and we become strong in spirit. We gain revelation upon revelation as our faith is thrust up to that next level.

Pitfall!: People give up when the healing doesn’t happen within their chosen time frame. They tolerate and make do, not wanting to walk the active journey of faith. Some may disregard this way of God healing them, and passively wait for someone to lay hands on them or think that healing is somehow going to fall through the sky!

Discipleship Question:

Q. Are you waiting for someone to lay hands on you or are you walking out your healing by faith?

The crazy good Gospel really is too good to be true. No matter what illness has appeared in your body, God has prepared a way out. Our challenge is to keep our eyes fixed upon the Healer, not necessarily the way we want to be healed. He is good all the time and wants you well more than you do. Dare you trust Him today?
