Our words Are Powerful
When I first became unwell I would speak words of defeat all the time. “If God was going to heal me, he would have done it by now……my life has been destroyed…….I’m going to be in pain forever…” and so on. I basically just said what I was thinking and feeling so the people around would know how bad the situation was and the impact it was having on me. At this point I had no idea I was feeding the illness and delaying the healing. When we speak toxic thoughts (anything that is against the Word of God), those words reinforce the problem.
Words are powerful. The Bible says they are containers of life or death!
God places a massive importance on the words we speak. Our words are seeds, so if we’re wanting a harvest of health we need to plant words of life. This is our responsibility, not God’s. Have you ever spoken words of defeat in desperation? Have you ever complained about your illness to others? Maybe you’ve even spoke words of criticism about God for not healing you? Toxic words aren’t just lies or swear words, but also negativity or fear induced words. We’re releasing death into the atmosphere, and also our bodies. How can we expect victory when we keep speaking words of defeat? Wouldn’t it be sad that some don’t get well because they never understood this principle.
“you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.” Pro 6:2
Meditating In The Word
I was surprised when I realised that it wasn’t my thoughts that would snare me, it was those words I’d actually spoken! How many times have you prayed ‘in faith’ for healing. You’ve quoted Scripture, and said all the right things in prayer. Yet later on, especially during those emotional moments, you completely counteract the prayer you prayed earlier and start speaking words of defeat! If we want healing to manifest in our bodies, our thoughts and words must come into alignment with the Word of God. Otherwise our prayers are null and void. The Bible tells us that ‘out of the heart the mouth speaks’. Matt 12:34. The way to speak words in line with the Word of God is to ensure we’re meditating in the Word. Every day, spending time in the Bible, listening to anointed preachers or declaring Scripture over ourselves. The Word needs to be in our hearts as this is what will determine what consistently comes out of our mouths during moments of stress.
The 10 spies reported reality when they gave what the Bible says is a ‘bad report’. There were powerful giants in the land but they said exactly what they saw with their natural eyes. In the same way, how many times do we give a ‘bad report’ when telling people about our health? ‘This illness will destroy me…..no-one ever got better from this……I only have 5% chance of survival…..’ Of course we’re looking at the situation in the natural, just like the 10 spies. So how can we faithfully discuss our situation? How can we tell of our health condition, which is our reality, and it not be a ‘bad report’?
Speak Your Words In Light Of The Cross
Joshua and Caleb never denied the reality, but they saw the giants from God’s perspective and were able to offer a faith filled report that honoured the magnitude of God. “We will devour them (the giants)….God is with us…” Num 14:9. In other words ‘i have been diagnosed with a terminal cancer…but God says ‘I am restoring health unto you and healing your wounds’…….’I have been in pain for over 20 years…..but God ‘sent forth his Word in order to heal’ so I know I’m getting better. This way we don’t suppress our reality or tell lies. If we were to speak God’s truth when we don’t actually believe it, this then causes a lack of integrity within us, causing conflict. ‘I am worried about my future but the Bible says that God delivers me from all my fears’.
“…the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.” Rom 4:17
If we want to see healing and restoration in our bodies, God’s way is for us to speak the healing into being. Abraham’s name was ‘the Father of many nations’ for 20 years before he actually had children. This was to be his identity, even though it hadn’t yet manifest in the natural. In the same way, we call ourselves ‘healed by the stripes of Jesus’ before we see this in our bodies; this is speaking Truth and life over our circumstances.
Words Have Creative Power
Have you noticed that in the Bible, God never created without the spoken word. God said ‘Light be’ in Genesis, and ‘then there was light’. He spoke the answer, the solution to the darkness. He didn’t just think it, he spoke it into existence. Jesus spoke to the fig tree ‘Be cursed’ and it withered up by the roots. In fact, words were always spoken in the Bible every time Jesus healed someone. Jesus spoke to the leper ‘be healed’ and the leper was healed. The woman with the issue of blood also spoke words of faith ‘She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Matt 9:21 So the key to seeing healing manifest in your body is to speak it forth. Awesome!
The Bible asks us to speak to the areas in our life which are dead. Ezekiel spoke to the dried bones in Ezekiel 37. The moment he prophesied to the breath, the dry bones became alive. Prophesy your future by speaking life, health and healing over yourself every day. Words are seeds and will bear fruit at the time of harvest.
Japenese scientist Masaru Emoto proved the power of our words by conducting a water experiment where he took samples of tap water and spoke to them. One sample he spoke words of life ‘you’re beautiful, I’m grateful for you, you’re amazing….’ and another sample he spoke words like ‘you disgust me, I hate you…’ He then photographed the samples: the samples where he had spoken loving words to looked like beautiful diamonds or snowflakes under the microscope and the samples where he had spoke hateful or words of death to looked dirty and ugly under the microscope. This scientifically proves that our spoken words have power to create beauty or destruction, life or death. If our bodies constitute approx 60% water, just think of the impact our words have if we speak words of life over them.
The Power of Royalty
Maybe you think that speaking powerful words is just for pastors or people with authority. God says in 1 Peter 2:9 that we “are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation” and “Where the word of a king is, there is power;” Ecc 8:4 He’s talking about you and me! We are the royal priesthood and our words are powerful. That’s why we tell our children and those around us how amazing they are, how beautiful and loving they are and how God has great things in store for them. Our words carry weight even though our crown may be invisible. Let’s use our power in the way in which God intended; to change the world around us whether it’s our own health or the health of others. I declare you healthy, healed and whole in the name of Jesus. God bless all of you.
