Grace For Healing
God wants you well
the hem of Jesus' garment

You probably wish ‘if only I could reach out and touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, then I would be miraculously healed’!

Today we look at the significance of the hem of Jesus’ garment and the secret meaning that lies within it. (You’ll never read this passage of Scripture in the same way again.)

In this post I reveal 4 tips based on the meaning of the hem of Jesus’ garment that we can apply to our healing journey.

You see, metaphorically speaking, I believe the hem of Jesus’ garment is still healing today.

Here’s how:

HOW TO TOUCH THE HEM OF JESUS’ GARMENT

1. ENSURE YOU HAVE FAITH REVELATION

“For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” Matt 9:12

The hem of Jesus’ garment is called the Tekhelet; from the root word Kahlah which means ‘finished’. It is this word ‘Kahlah’ that Jesus shouted on the cross. (Jesus spoke Aramaic).

The woman with the issue of blood knew to touch the hem of His garment, she had revelation that she was touching the finished work of Jesus. (Even though He had not yet died).

She knew Her healing was in His wings as was prophesied by Malachi. The wings referring to the hem of Jesus garment. (Just picture Jesus walking with his tekehlet flowing in the wind behind him)

The Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;

Malachi 4:2

The tekhelet was blue. There is debate as to what blue means in Scripture, some people teach that it means grace but others disagree. I don’t really know the answer, but it makes sense that it means grace.

The woman touched the finished work, she touched grace.

God has lovingly made provision for me and my healing. I believe to touch the finished work, or grace, means to appropriate Christ’s death and resurrection.

This is how we touch the hem of Jesus’ garment today.

We don’t need to earn it or add to it, we are already complete and now we walk in light of that, believing in our healing before we see it. (which is what this website is all about).

This is New Covenant healing by faith.

2. PARTAKE OF THE BODY OF JESUS

It’s not the prayer cloth or the hem that is the source of the Dunamis power. It’s the person who is wearing it. Power and healing flowed out from His body into the hem of Jesus’ garment, into the wings of the Tekhelet.

The body of Jesus represents healing. This is why we partake of bread during Holy Communion. Jesus died for our bodies to be well.

The famous verse ‘by his stripes we are healed’ is referring to the body of Jesus, broken for our healing.

Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Matt 26:26

If you haven’t already done so, take a read of THE HEALING POWER OF THE HOLY COMMUNION

When we partake of the Holy Communion we are saying thank you for that healing. And if that healing is yet to manifest in the natural realm, it’s an act of faith.

In essence,  we are acknowledging the significance of His broken body and what it means for our healing.

3. KNOW THE BODY IS THE CHURCH

The Body of Christ also refers to The Church; that is all those who have accepted Jesus are now ‘members’ of His Body.

If we want to receive a healing, we cannot separate ourselves from The Church.

‘Beth’ in Scripture means ‘house’. When Jesus heals the man at the pool of Bethesda, He was saying that Healing is found in the house of God, the church.

Just as a flower needs the right conditions for growth, we need the right environment for healing. Are you in an environment of faith, safety and love?

I’m talking about The Church, The Body.

I know for some going to church when you’re symptoms are extreme is a challenge. It can be hard to sit with people who are healthy and living life.

Of course, The Holy Spirit can heal anywhere but separating ourselves from church life may hinder us from receiving.

The enemy can also cause separation in hearts.

I’m talking about unforgiveness, anger, envy and jealousy. When was the last time you checked your heart? Is there anything separating you from someone else?

4. EXPERIENCE THE TOUCH OF GOD

The woman in our story was looking to touch God. She touched the hem of Jesus’ garment for a purpose.

She had intention and expectation; with a faith to receive.

The woman knew He was the Son of God, the Messiah who loves, forgives and heals.

She pursued an encounter that would transform her world; she wanted to experience the touch of God.

And as many as touched Him were made well.

Mark 6:56

I’m sure you’re familiar with the famous painting called The Creation of Adam; painted by Michaelangelo in the Sistine chapel.

It shows the fingers of Adam and God almost touching but not quite. This makes me quite sad because it suggests that there is a distance between us and our Father.

God is closer than you think.

If you need a healing, like this woman, can I encourage you each day to reach out and touch the hem of Jesus’ garment through encounter? I believe He has dunamis healing power that is flowing into His wings all the time

Prayer, the Word of God, worship and basking in His presence are all ways we encounter God. What’s your favourite way to encounter the Lord?

Each time you pray, I believe you touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. You are declaring to yourselves and to the world that you know the answer is at the Cross.

Please remember that if this amazing lady can press into God for healing despite the odds, then we can too.

How has reading about the tekehlet helped you in your faith for healing?

God bless
