Have you given up hope that you’ll ever be well again? I believe after reading this post you’ll have a fresh revelation of Bible hope and why it’s so very different to the hope you’re maybe more familiar with.
My situation was impossible, doctors couldn’t help me and it seemed like life was over until I discovered the value of knowing Bible Hope in my situation. I had been waiting and waiting; the months had turned to years yet still no breakthrough. I’d resigned to the fact that this illness was here to stay.
Are your symptoms persisting and your pain continuing for what seems like a lifetime? Maybe you’ve also started to tolerate your situation believing that this is your lot in life. I hear you and I know that despair.
THE RISK OF WORLDLY HOPE
Surely it’s dangerous to keep on hoping after so many years. Think of the disappointment that lies ahead? Raising your hopes for a supernatural miracle when your body, the doctor and the world around you says there’s just no way. Maybe you’ve believed for things before but been disappointed which has diluted your faith again and again?
There’s nothing the enemy wants more than for you to give up hoping for a better life, a better future. He wants you to stand still and accept the status quo.
If we’re looking at worldly hope, then yes it’s a big risk because it’s not based on a solid foundation, it’s nothing more than wishful thinking. “I hope it’s sunny tomorrow…” There’s no power here, it’s a gamble. But Bible hope is based on the blood of Jesus so you and I can have such security in it’s quality.
WHAT IS BIBLE HOPE?
Elpis hope, or Bible hope is “joyful, confident, certain expectation of good,” and it’s automatically ours because of what Jesus has done for us. Doesn’t this fill us with such a rest and a confidence for our healing?
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hope is the environment where faith grows; if you want faith, you have to have hope first. Hope is your ability to see something that isn’t a reality at the moment. This means seeing it with your heart, or your imagination.
Do you remember when you were a child, dreaming and being creative? It was such fun. God is asking us to be like children once again and to start imagining. Proverbs 23:7 says ‘For as he thinks in his heart, so is he” God looks at our hearts, so wouldn’t it be great to fill our hearts with all our dreams and desires instead of all our worries and fears.
We don’t see hope with our physical eyes. It is something we see with our spiritual eyes or the eyes of our hearts. This is dreaming. I’m talking about those secret desires that you long for.
I encourage you to start dreaming with your heart once again. Start seeing yourself well even though you’ve been unwell for many years. Start seeing yourself healthy and whole, pain free, running marathons, living to old age…..all the things that the world would say are impossible for you now. This is imagination, this is hope.
WHY NOT CREATE A VISION BOARD?
This is where vision boards are helpful. A few years ago I created one by cutting and pasting pictures on a card of how I wanted my life to be once all the symptoms in my body were gone. I included pictures of holidays, the family life I desired and friendships. It helped my mind go in the right direction. All I needed to do was to look at the vision board each day and it encouraged me to start dreaming; this is hope.
If you don’t see it on the inside, you won’t see it on the outside.
I’m sure you’re familiar with the story of Abraham. He’d been promised children, the Father of many nations was his new name even though he was childless. Every day he reminded himself of the promise of God. He looked at the sand or the stars to get the image down in his heart. This fed his imagination, a bit like having a vision board. Romans 4:18 tells us “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed”
THE FOUNDATION FOR BIBLE HOPE
Elpis hope or Bible hope cannot fail. It’s a never-ending supply. This takes the pressure of ‘have I got enough faith to be healed?’ Personally, I think it’s helpful to take our eyes off faith, and put them onto hope instead. Isn’t it so much easier to operate from a place of rest when your eyes are on Bible hope and not the wishful thinking hope in the world?
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
We know that God is a God of love, but He’s the God of hope too! The Bible tells us in Ephesians 3:20 that He “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”
In other words, you have to imagine first, before God will do the impossible, this is the power within you. See yourself healthy and whole in your imagination, this is your creative power that God has given you.
OPPOSITION OF HOPE
Unfortunately for many of us, as the time continuum increases, we start to see reality instead of hoping for a great future. Disappointment, tolerance and acceptance sinks in. The Bible warns us of this and tells us what to do.
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
2 Cor 10:5
If your imaginations are against the promises you’re believing God for, you cast them down. You can choose to replace those thoughts which hinder your Bible hope. So when you think of your future as being the same as your past, you begin to think of your vision board instead. When you think your pain is here to stay, you look at the Scriptural evidence that says otherwise.
When you picture your healing in your heart, you’ll be patient, you’ll persevere. Seeing something in your heart comes before the manifestation of the miracle. It’s so easy isn’t it, to wait for the symptoms in your body to disappear and to allow the symptoms to dominate what they see with their hearts. Most people in the world, deal with reality but God wants you to really trust him against all odds.
I’ll be honest, it’s very difficult when you’ve been ill for a long time as those neural pathways in your brain have been developed. It’s much easier to receive a healing when you’ve only been ill for a short period of time.
If you’re like me, you may be in a place now where the sickness is all you’ve ever known. As time progresses, so does the weariness you lose all your passion.
The answer to loss of Bible hope:
This is awesome. No matter how long you’ve been in the valley, hope in God is the answer to renewed strength. Not any strength, the supernatural strength of God. We place our eyes on Him.
In 1 Cor 13:13 Hope is placed amongst faith and love. As you focus your attention, in the midst of the storm, on the unfailing love of Christ, your hope and your zest for life returns and you’ll have His strength for your journey once again.
THE LOVE OF GOD
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
The Bible says that it’s the love of God that will keep on encouraging you to keep on hoping, even if you’ve been unwell for many years. You will never be disappointed when you know how much God loves you. His love guarantees your (Bible) hope. Asking the Holy Spirit to reveal this love more and more is often a great prayer to pray. Yes you will still have bad days, but His love will uplift you and enable you to get up and keep going once again.
“But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,”
Are you able to put your hope in God’s mercy and love? Are you believing that all will be well because of His love? Could you get excited about your future once again? Keeping your eyes fixed upon promise maker, not the promise itself, will keep you in that zone of hope, not disappointment.
What would it look like if you and I anchored ourselves in Bible hope? I think we’d have a confident, joyful and steadfast kind of hope that would carry us through each day of the healing journey. We know the blood of Jesus would never disappoint us, our minds would be continually in the right direction and faith for the miracle would increase.
