In the synoptic Gospels we read of how Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter. Today I wanted to glean 5 important truths that we can apply to our own healing journeys:
- God is indiscriminate
- God responds to honour
- Trust God’s Word
- Your environment determines your miracle
- Delay proves a greater miracle
Whether you’re a famous church leader that 1000s of people follow in instagram, or someone who is an outcast like the woman with the issue of blood, God meets you and ministers his healing.
JESUS HEALS JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER
1. GOD IS INDISCRIMINATE. HE WANTS YOU WELL
Jesus heals a young woman with an acute life threatening illness but he also makes time for an older woman with a chronic condition.
Often in church life we can focus on the acute and life threatening conditions. This is human nature. We tend to think because they’re urgent it means they’re more important.
They’re usually more ‘dramatic’ and it’s much easier to poor energy and passion into something that’s short term
Thankfully from God’s perspective, this is just not his viewpoint. He doesn’t view one illness worse than another.
So whatever illness you’re living with today, rest assured God wants you well.
2. HEALING GOES HAND IN HAND WITH HONOUR
‘When he saw him, he fell at his feet’. Mark 5:22. I think it takes a lot to fall at people’s feet, especially for a leader.
Whilst the pharisees were full of pride and self righteousness, Jairus showed humility and faith.
If we’re believing God for a healing, coming to Jesus with the same heart attitude or reverence, honour and meekness increases our receptivity.
Jairus had a high opinion of Jesus, knowing He was the solution.
Jairus’ honour and trust for Jesus is evident by his not complaining when the woman with the issue of blood delayed them. His daughter was about to die, yet Jairus’ esteem for the Lord was more important.
How many times do we complain when we feel God is ‘taking His time’? or when we think God is more concerned about others?
The healing of Jairus’ daughter encourages greater humility as we continue to wait patiently for our Father in Heaven to do what He promises.
3. JESUS ASKS THAT WE TRUST
On the news that Jairus’ daughter is now dead, Jesus asked Jairus to believe and trust Him even though the crowds were speaking otherwise.
Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter after Jairus choose to belief the words of Jesus despite the crowds and human reasoning. This shows us to continue to focus our attention on God’s promises rather than the world around us
Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” Mark 5:36
He asks us to do the same. In a world of doubt and disbelief, are we going to keep on elevating God’s promises or are will we give in to our symptoms and what the dr’s say?

I love the story of Dodie Osteen who had just 2 weeks to live. Her family chose to see her as someone who was healthy and whole despite her reality.
She even covered mirrors so she couldn’t see how ill she looked. At one point she was on the floor but her family didn’t acknowledge her suffering at all. This is a wonderful example of ‘faith without works is dead’.
I find this undeniably challenging when a sickness or symptoms have persisted for many years though.
4. YOUR ENVIRONMENT DETERMINES YOUR MIRACLE
When Jesus announced that Jairus’ daughter was not dead, but asleep, the crowd disbelieved Him and even ridiculed Him.
To me God is showing us how our environments could determine whether or not you or I receive our miracle.
But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.
Mark 4:40
Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter when the environment was conducive for healing.
The only people allowed into see the girl were her parents and Jesus inner circle Peter, James and John.
Like many of you, I’ve learned to be careful who I listen to. Not everyone is helpful. Some Christians are like Job’s friends, lacking in empathy and causing hurt with their opinions, judgements and ‘advice’.

Some just don’t have faith. Others have wrong or misguided believing.
Our environment impacts us far more than we realise. Surrounding yourself with toxic people or simply those who hurt you when you’re with them could be a hindering atmosphere for you.
Ask God for the wisdom and insight who to allow into your situation and He will show you to include and who to keep a distance from.
Those around you have the ability and power to either take you towards Jesus, or away from Him.
5. JESUS’ DELAY PROVES A GREATER MIRACLE.
Jairus was wanting Jesus to heal his daughter but the Lord wanted to perform a greater miracle, he wanted to resurrect her from the dead.
If you’re wondering why healing is taking so long, have you ever considered the possibility that the Lord wants to do something greater?
Those that receive instant miracles at the start of their healing journey’s miss out on the deeper healing that others have to wait a long time for.
Never despise God’s timing, His ways and His methods. A greater resurrection is around the corner.
Please don’t read this post and think that it’s your job to change yourself to be like Jairus. I don’t think that’s the correct mindset at all.
When we focus on Jesus our faith transforms which increases our capacity to receive.
What would your world be like if you believed God wanted to do more than merely heal your body? He wants to make you whole.
How can you honour Him today? Is there anyone you need to remove from your life?
He’s growing your trust and patience in Him wanting you to place all faith in Him alone and not be swayed by the opinions of others or your natural reality.
God will get you to where He needs you to be to receive all His grace and goodness has for you.
